a. What is your topic and why?
My topic is STEM awareness with a focus in Elementary School children. Our country currently has a shortage of STEM professionals and individuals in these careers. While there is a shortage, there is a steady supply of students who are academically ready to fill these careers. As students grow, they simply lose interest in STEM careers; scientists, engineers, mathematicians etc. It is important to keep these interests alive, and starting in elementary schools is one of the best times to do this.
b. What do you hope to accomplish this year with this topic (connecting your answer to each of the 4 ESLRs)
iPoly Citizen: Working with kids will give me a new perspective and teach me to be more patient. I feel that I am working towards a goal that is bigger than just me.
Effective Communicator: Being a role mode, speaking and teaching at a third grade level so that the students can understand and absorb the information that I provide to them.
Effective Learner: Continue to use all available resources in order to better my understanding of my topic and continue to learn more about it, also keeping an open mind and allowing outside ideas to influence my knowledge.
Effective User of Technology:
Using all available resources to assist me in expanding my knowledge base.
